Anaesthesia

Anaesthesia is a specialised area of medicine that focuses on providing patients with pain relief and controlled unconsciousness during surgical procedures, as well as managing pain before, during, and after surgical or medical procedures. Anaesthetists assess patients before surgery to decide on an anaesthesia plan based on the patient’s medical history, as well as administering anaesthesia and monitoring patients throughout surgery. Anaesthetists often work in critical care settings, such as intensive care units (ICUs), they play a crucial role in providing pain relief during labour and may specialise in paediatric anaesthesia for children requiring surgery. Anaesthetists are involved in the CGHP-supported SCALE Critical Care Partnership and the Kampala Cambridge Maternal and Neonatal Health Partnership.
