Babu Karavadra
Obstetrics & Gynaecology
Babu is an ST5 in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the East of England. He has recently completed and graduated with a PhD in endometriosis from the University of East Anglia. Babu has an interest in research and global maternal health. He hopes to use this opportunity as a global health fellow to develop on this further. Babu is particularly excited to collaborate with one of the Cambridge Global Health Partnerships in Uganda.
Barida Poi
Obstetrics & Gynaecology
Barida Poi Barida is an ST4 trainee in the East of England deanery in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and is very excited to embark on her journey as a Global Health Fellow. She has always had a keen interest in Global Health from medical school, and through various events and workshops has been inspired to pursue a postgraduate qualification in Global Health. She has a passion for education and improving outcomes in women’s health, and Barida looks forward to utilising this opportunity to contribute to a Global Health Partnership in a meaningful and sustainable way, and develop her knowledge and transferrable skills within O&G to positively impact patient care both locally and internationally.
Catherine de Cates
Ears Nose and Throat (ENT)
Catherine is an ENT trainee registrar in the East of England. She was introduced to global health when she was 17 years old volunteering in Lesotho on an AIDS peer educators programme to train school children in HIV/AIDS awareness. More recently since starting surgical training, Catherine spent time in Nepal doing a research project on chronic ear disease and hearing loss with the Britain Nepal Otology Service (BRINOS). She hopes to continue developing this work during the East of England Global Health Fellowship and is delighted to have this opportunity.
Rebecca Rogers
Diabetes & Endocrinology
Rebecca is an ST6 trainee in Diabetes and Endocrinology in the East of England.
She is very enthusiastic to meet and work with likeminded team members to grow bidirectional relationships with partnered countries across the globe. On a regional basis, Rebecca hopes to expand awareness of global health initiatives amongst her peers and healthcare professionals, and endeavours to incorporate this topic as a fundamental component of medical training. Diabetes is a challenge on an exponential scale, Rebecca is interested on building a focus on diabetes care in low-or middle-income countries within an existing partnership project.
Emily Loud
Public Health
Emily is an ST3 public health registrar, who has just finished working in local authority, and is now beginning a placement at her local integrated care system (ICS). She has a keen interest in climate change, and the many ways in which this is already having an impact on health globally. Her research interests include pandemic preparedness, immunisation, childhood nutrition and health promotion.
Before starting the public health training programme, she worked for five years in the global health sector as a communications consultant, working for a variety of non-profit organisations working on immunisation, nutrition, and women’s education. She also undertook an MSc in global health at University College London.
She is excited to use the global health fellowship to unite her public health training with past global health experience.
Jennifer Wilburn
Public Health
Jennifer is currently an ST4 Public Health Registrar in the East of England. She began her career in the US, where she received her bachelor’s degree in Biological Anthropology at James Madison University and her master’s degree in Global Disease Epidemiology and Control at John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. At which time she also worked in Burkina Faso conducting HIV research.
She worked at various public health departments in the US conducting outbreak response and volunteered for a US-based NGO to provide support during the West African Ebola outbreak.
Jennifer is particularly interested in infectious diseases as well as maternal and child health. She is excited for this opportunity to pursue her interests and learn more about global health from a different perspective.
Sarah Loftus
Intensive Care Medicine/Anaesthesia
Sarah is a ST3 Anaesthetic trainee currently based at Lister Hospital, planning to pursue joint Intensive Care Medicine/Anaesthesia specialty training. She has developed an interest in global health during her undergraduate training. Before training in Anaesthesia Sarah completed a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene at LSTM.
Sarah is excited for this opportunity to support ethical and sustainable healthcare partnerships for mutual development and reduction of health inequality. She thinks that fellowships like this are crucial to facilitating global health engagement which brings many benefits both to individual clinicians and the wider NHS.
Suny Coscione
Infectious Diseases & Medical Microbiology
Suny qualified in Medicine from Imperial College London. Following a budding passion for global health, she took time out of training after her foundation years and completed a MSc in Tropical Medicine & International Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, during which she undertook a research project in the Solomon Islands on public health control of ectoparasitic infections, such as scabies and headlice. This was a pivotal career moment that cemented her passion for both infectious diseases and global health work. Suny is currently an ST4 Specialty Registrar in Infectious Diseases & Medical Microbiology in the East of England. She moved to Cambridge in 2020 on an Academic Clinical Fellowship and has an interest in disease epidemiology and antimicrobial resistance.

William Nabulyato
Orthopaedics
Will is an ST8 Trauma and Orthopaedic Registrar in the East of England. Will has a strong desire to improve on existing health and educational frameworks and believes that community engagement at all levels is predicated on empathic, honest leadership that enables co-development. Will recently completed his MPhil in Population Health Science majoring in Global Health, at the University of Cambridge, conducting research with the World Health Organisation (WHO) Trauma Operational and Advisory Team. This taught him about the bio-psycho-social, cultural, political, and environmental health determinants that circumvent national boundaries and cause gross health economic inequality. Wanting to expand on this, he felt this fellowship would further his commitment of achieving sustainable emergent trauma care networks and orthopaedic trauma educational content in his home country of Zambia, as well as further improve on existing collaborations between the sub-Saharan region and the UK.
